To Thy Tents...

If only we knew how futile it is to make a fuss over what we have little or no control over- Me

For the Bible scholars, the story in the Bible had it that at a point, the king wouldn't listen to the people, and they got angry and decided to leave and go to their various homes since the king had refused to give them a stake or an inheritance. Hence the term 'To your tents O Israel' was born. Sound familiar?

This sounds like what is going on in America with the Executive order on Immigration ban signed by the newly sworn in President Trump, which has created some form of global chaos. The gist is that he didn't consult those that were meant to be consulted before such a decision would be taken. Now, some families are torn apart, as their loved ones who left the US before this order came into effect are stranded in various countries, unable to re-enter the USA. Now everybody is screaming and complaining, even the ones that voted for him, didn't they see this coming? Didn't he say he would do this? Why are they acting surprised? Is he the first to ban people from a certain country from entering his country?

To your tents O ye people of the world! If they say they do not want you in their well-developed country, instead of seeing it as a problem, why not see it as a challenge to go and fix your country. Are you aware that 16 countries currently ban people holding Israeli passports from entering their country? Some of those countries are the ones accusing President Trump of intolerance and all what not. Talk about double standard. I learnt that legal permanent US residents from all these banned countries will be allowed back into the country, most likely after some delays and severe screening. However, isn't it ironic that the number of people killed by gun-toting American children and teenagers exceed the number of those killed by terrorists in a year? Anyway, that's none of my business.

Honestly I wish Nigeria was among the countries banned, so this brain drain we're experiencing here will cease and maybe our people will look inwards and develop our country. Do you know what the best part of these executive orders is? He is fulfilling his campaign promises, however ridiculous and unfair they may seem, and within one week of being sworn in! When was the last time any of our leaders here fulfilled their campaign promises even after 8 years? See someone hitting the ground running immediately and raising duct within a week. What will I give to hear a president say 'Nigeria First' and mean it.

So, stay in your country, work on it and make it like America. America didn't become the world power it is today in one day, it took efforts of human beings to make it so, but unfortunately, most of us want to be where things are already working, forgetting that it was people who laboured to set the systems up. It is not a crime to tell someone not to come to my house, inhospitable, yes, but never a crime. I wish them well with the president they elected. If you don't like it, move to Canada, the doors have been opened to everyone.

Have a fruitful paper-chasing day and week ahead.
Peace...
