Truth Is Bitter

The truth may roar, but its roaring does not terrify the blameless. Guilty conscience needs neither a critic nor an accuser. Remember, the truth has no aiding crutches; once it is limping, its name is "a lie'.

Hello everyone,
How was your Independence weekend? Hope you found some reasons, no matter how little, to thank God for Nigeria and for being a Nigerian.

Who else missed the speech delivered by the ex-Governor of Anambra State on Saturday? I did o!! I was quite surprised when #peterObi was trending on our twitterspace here in Nigeria, I had to find out why, and boy!, was I pleased?! After listening to the speech, I can imagine the devilish side-eye with which some Governors (both ex and presently serving) will be looking at him. Truth is bitter!, and he dished them out in healthy doses on Saturday.

Peter Obi wasn't a perfect Governor, of course not, but what nobody would accuse him of was frivolous spending and wasting of the tax payers' funds. One of the reasons why people in my state hated him then was that he wouldn't bring out money so they'd share. Some were of the opinion that he was packing all the money for himself; but how much could he pack, really? This is a successful business man with sole franchise for importing so many things into the country, asides his investment and position in Fidelity bank.

Listening to him talk, my ears were throbbing from the huge amount of money being wasted by our Governors on frivolous matters. He exposed the rot and waste that goes on at the state levels and nobody is questioning it. We focus on the Federal Government and forget to hold our Governors, who're closer to us, accountable. Other Governors must be so upset with him for further opening the eyes of the citizens and urging them to look into the cost of governance from the Local Government level, to the State level, and finally to the Federal level.

Nobody wants to hear the bitter truth. We love things to be sugar-coated, even to our own detriment. Say the truth and shame those that deserve to be shamed (because it's not only the devil that the truth shames nowadays). When you're known as the truthful person, I bet you won't have many friends, and they will not call you when they're up to mischief because they know you always stand for the truth. Truth may be bitter, but it needs to be said.

We as the youths really need to take back our country; if we refuse to do that, these looters will hand over to their children who're currently scattered abroad studying and partying. When the time comes, they'll be shipped home and made to lead us. People who do not know anything about governance or the peculiar issues we're grappling with as a nation. They youths can no longer afford to be onlookers in this movie playing out; we need to move beyond social media mobilisation and mobilise physically and intellectually. The pittance they share to our youths during campaign and elections need to stop. If we do not campaign, fight, kill, and vote for them, they won't have the opportunity to loot our resources blind.

I believe that all the things the ex-Governor spoke of are things past and serving governors know that can be done in order to save money, pay salaries and develop their states. Yet they refuse to do it. Why?! That  is a question we should start asking them.

Enjoy your holiday (if you're in Nigeria), and have a fruitful week ahead.
Remember, honesty is the best policy.

Hugs...
