Many Are Called...

MANY ARE CALLED BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN

Hiya, how was your week? Hope it's been good in spite of whatever challenges you may be battling with at the moment.

In this world, especially in Nigeria, we've seen people in various professions who have so badly derailed from the path that I doubt if they'd ever be able to find their way back to the right path. In my opinion, some professions should not be dabbled into if you do not have the passion for it.

1. TEACHING: If you've been a follower of my blog you'd know that I have the utmost respect for teachers, having been raised by both parents who were teachers. Teaching is not easy, it'll test your patience and tolerance level as you deal with students who have varying degrees of assimilation, as well as annoying parents who'd never appreciate what you do. It is therefore not a job for the fainthearted or quick-tempered.

2. LAWYERS: Hmmmmm.... to be a Lawyer is not about arguing blindly at any given opportunity just for the sake of arguing. I think it's high time lawyers ask themselves why they studied Law in the university. Is it to argue, or to see that justice is served in all situations? Recently in Nigeria some Judges were arrested for alleged gross corruption. The means and manner through which the arrests were made is another story, but I was expecting lawyers to express their displeasure and disappointment at the allegations levelled against the Judges. However all we've heard are condemnation and counter allegations in defense of the Judges. One of the Judges even faked that she was admitted in a hospital to avoid being interrogated. I wonder why they took the oath of office; to help criminals and looters evade justice? Or to see that offenders pay for their crimes? If the judiciary is corrupt, then the country is ruined. Some Lawyers intentionally muddle up cases in the courts which allows criminal to walk free. Is that why you are in that profession? To pervert justice? It's just a shame that some people studied Law to become lawyers just so they could be called 'Barristers', not because they want to see justice served.

3. DOCTORS AND NURSES : Ask an average Nigerian about nurses and doctors in Nigeria and I bet that you'd rarely hear any good story. To me, good doctors and nurses deserve to be in heaven, period!! However, most of the ones we have here, especially in the Public hospitals, seem to come from hell, especially the nurses. The level of negligence is out of this world. I know that they've seen thousands of similar cases and therefore might not regard yours, which you think is special, as any different from the ones they've handled. However, that is not the reason why they would be so rude, insolent and downright wicked. When you hear the way they talk to patients you'd  wonder if they actually chose that profession or the profession chose them. Many nurses are churned out from the various institutions in Nigeria yearly, but no humane spirit in most of them. Lack of accountability also contributes to the mess going on in our hospitals. Patients die out of negligence and wrong diagnosis, yet no one is held accountable or responsible for that. They continue with whatever they're doing. Until the Nigeria Medical Association begins to sanction doctors and even withdraw their licences, they'd not sit up and do what they swore to do. Same for the nurses and midwives. It's really bad.
To be a Teacher, a Lawyer, a Medical doctor or a nurse is not compulsory. If you do not have the stomach for it, please don't venture into that just for the sake of the prestige that comes with it.  Don't be the bad egg that'd mix up with the good ones and spoil the profession  for them. If you cannot stay true to your chosen profession and give in your best, then don't even bother. That Nigeria is in a mess today is majorly the fault of the 3 professions above. Criminals will loot the nation's resources, and the judiciary will let them go on some silly technicality. That the health sector is bad is mostly as a result of the poor attitude of the health workers as well as corruption as they'd claim they equipped the hospitals, but you'd not see any equipment ( the judiciary also comes in here too , to prosecute the corrupt officials). That our education sector is in the comatose state where it is today is not my fault, rather the fault of the people who, without the passion for the job, dabbled into it because they couldn't get another job.

To whom much is given, much is also expected. The onus is on us to make this nation geeat again. A word is enough for the wise.

Have a great weekend and be kind to one another.
Hugs...
