To the "Enablers" in Domestic Abuse

Have you ever heard them speak? The Enablers, I mean. For someone like me, I can't stand to hear them go on and on about why domestic violence 'possibly' happened, or try to justify and defend the abuser's actions.

Note:

• If you lie to cover up domestic abuse, you're an Enabler
• If you tell your friend to pray, endure, and stay in an abusive relationship, you're an Enabler
• If you caution someone against reporting a case of abuse, you're an Enabler.
• If you see or know about abuse going on, and do nothing to prevent or stop it, you're an Enabler

It might sound weird, but we have heard women defend their abusive partners, lie about the bruises they have all over their body, and some go as far as justifying such actions. We hear them say "maybe if I become more docile, he won't hit me". Those are Enablers and thanks to their actions, the cycle of abuse continues.

To the friends and family members (yes, parents too) who tell their daughters to stay and endure abuse, WHY?? You'd rather see her constantly humiliated, de-humanized, deprived of any atom of dignity, dead??? Do not think you're butting in where you don't belong, or that it's of no concern to you. We owe it to one another to look out for each other. Will you rather sign her condolence register?

One thing I know is that Enablers have very low self-esteem;  they believe they do not deserve better that then lot being dished out to them. That is why they justify and make excuses for the abuser. I believe if you know your worth, you'd know that you deserve the very best.

I'm calling you out; If your son or brother is abusive towards his partner, do something. If your neighbour is being abused, do something. If you know that colleague that hits his wife, say something. If you allow or defend someone's abusive behaviour  through your actions and inactions, you're an Enabler.  Are you one?
